Journey from Arusha into the wild heart of Tanzania to witness one of nature's greatest spectacles: the Great Migration's Crossing of the Grumeti River, the first of the crocodile-infested rivers they need to cross. From the Ngorongoro Crater and the predator-rich plains of Ndutu to the remote Western Corridor of the Serengeti, this signature safari follows two million wildebeest, zebra, and antelope on their ancient migratory route — raw, unpredictable, unfiltered Africa.

Arusha • Makuyuni • Ngorongoro • Ndutu • Central & Western Serengeti

Day by day

Day 1
Stepping into Africa: Arusha, Safari Gateway in Northern Tanzania
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transfer 45 minutes to Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge at the foothills of Mount Meru — the ideal place for a soft landing and to settle in and ease into Tanzania. A long-standing Miguu favourite.
Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge, Arusha — 2 nights, Half Board / B&B
Day 2
Discovering Colorful Arusha
A day at your own pace: the Maasai Market, lunch at the Cultural & Heritage Centre, and optional guided nature walks, horseback riding, or a visit to the Serval Wildlife Sanctuary.
Day 3
Your First Safari: Makuyuni Reserve, Then Drive to Karatu
Drive (~2.5 hrs) to Makuyuni Wildlife Reserve for wildlife viewing and an optional safari walk, then continue to the town of Karatu for the evening.
Maasailand Coffee Lodge, Karatu — 1 night, Full Board
Day 4
Ngorongoro Crater, Africa's Lost Eden, Then Drive to Ndutu, South Serengeti
A 40-minute drive to Ngorongoro and a stunning 1 hour drive to the crater floor followed by a 3–4 hour game drive — Ngorongoro is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has Africa's highest density of predators, with a chance of spotting black rhinos — followed by a picnic lunch and the scenic 2-hour drive to Ndutu.
Lake Masek Luxury Tented Lodge, Ndutu — 2 nights, Full Board
Day 5
Full Day Exploring Ndutu
Morning and afternoon game drives across plains alive with wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle — prime territory for lions, cheetahs, leopards, and hyenas. There are 4 lion prides in the area.
Day 6
From Ndutu into the Heart of the Serengeti
A 4–5 hour game drive north into Central Serengeti (~120 km) with a picnic lunch en route, arriving to settle into your tented suite for dinner under the stars.
Singing Grass, Central Serengeti — 2 nights, Full Board
Day 7
Full-day Exploration of the Land of the Lion King – Central Serengeti
Explore the wildlife-rich heart of the Serengeti — lions on kopjes, cheetahs on the grasslands, and large herds of buffalo and elephant. Optional Black Rhino Safari with Park Rangers.
Day 8
Into the Untamed West – the Grumeti River
An extended game drive (~3 hrs) into the Western Serengeti, with photo stops, a picnic lunch, and short walks where permitted, arriving for sundowners. Where there are masses of wildebeest and zebra, expect predators.
Lahia Tented Lodge, Western Serengeti — 3 nights, Full Board
Days 9–10
The Grumeti River and Its Remote Environs
Full days in search of the Grumeti River crossings — the 2nd of the Great Migration's signature spectacles — with extensive game drives, picnic lunches, and sundowners. With the blessings of the wildlife gods, we will see crossings.
Day 11
From the Wild and Back – Flight to Arusha
A final game drive before flying to Arusha; lunch and browsing for arts and crafts at the Cultural Heritage Centre, then check-in for a relaxed evening.
Gran Melia Arusha — 1 night, Half Board
Day 12
